The Catalan Police reported on Wednesday that the incident took place on October 16 of last year in the Catalan capital, when the man severely assaulted the minor. The suspect was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) at the time.
Following the assault, the man initially fled to Morocco. However, he was later located in France after he resumed contact with his partner via social media and began harassing her again.
This renewed harassment prompted the woman to file a new complaint, initiating a fresh line of investigation that allowed the Mossos d'Esquadra to gather information regarding his potential whereabouts.
The Mossos Unit located at the Le Perthus Police and Customs Cooperation Center alerted the Gendarmerie. The arrest finally occurred in the town of Tonneins, situated between Toulouse and Bordeaux. International cooperation mechanisms have now been activated to begin the extradition process.
