Authorities had launched a search operation and asked for public assistance, warning that the woman might have been disoriented. Her description and photograph were widely circulated in hopes of finding her alive.

This was not the first time she had gone missing. A similar alert was triggered in November in Barcelona, although on that occasion, she was successfully located and returned home safely.
On February 19, the police officially ended the search and expressed their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim.
