The National Archive of Catalonia will open the exhibition L'arxiver Duran on March 18, celebrating Agustí Duran i Sanpere as the architect of the nation's modern archiving system.

Curated by Pilar Cuerva Castillo and Enric Terradellas Prat, the exhibition features original documents and artifacts. It traces Duran i Sanpere's career from his beginnings in Cervera to his leadership at the Historical Archive of the City of Barcelona.
A central theme is the heroic rescue of documents during the 1936-1939 War. As head of the Archive Section, he managed the protection of 15,000 linear meters of records, moving them to safe locations such as Poblet and Pedralbes to ensure their survival.
The exhibition, which runs until June 13, 2026, also examines the political persecution Duran faced in 1939 and his later contributions to historical research. The opening ceremony will include a presentation by Joaquim Borràs Gómez, Director General of Cultural Heritage.
