The Barcelona City Council and the family of illustrator Amaia Arrazola have agreed to integrate the artist's work, who passed away last November, into the design of the new Abaceria Market in Gràcia.

The agreement will allow the illustrations that Amaia Arrazola painted on the construction fences to endure over time. Mayor Jaume Collboni and Gràcia Councilor Laia Bonet met with the artist's family to confirm that the new building, set to open in the summer of 2026, will feature two dedicated memorial spots.

"Amaia knew how to capture in her illustrations the spirit of Gràcia's traditions and the essence of local commerce."

The first tribute space will be located in a glass structure facing the future public square, where part of the original 2024 mural will be restored. The second spot, named Amaia's Balcony, will be on the second floor and will display vinyls of her designs featuring fresh products, creating a visual dialogue with the market stalls.
The Abaceria Market will return to its historic location after eight years of construction and temporary activity in a tent on Passeig de Sant Joan. Arrazola's work, originally from the Basque Country but deeply connected to Vila de Gràcia, will remain forever linked to the market's identity.
