Residents of the Sant Roc neighborhood in Badalona blocked the C-31 highway for an hour and a half on the evening of January 27, protesting against a wave of robberies and rising insecurity.

The road closure, which affected both directions (towards Barcelona and towards Maresme), was a direct response to repeated robberies in several neighborhood doorways. This action was precipitated after yet another day marked by these incidents, which residents claim made “the glass overflow.”

Demonstrators report a growing sense of insecurity and demand urgent measures to put an end to the repeated thefts.

The protest occurred just one day after a neighborhood delegation met with the Mayor of Badalona, Xavier García Albiol, to explain the serious situation they are experiencing. Residents conveyed their demands but feel that the municipal response has been insufficient.
This is not the first protest action. Last week, Sant Roc residents had already blocked the Avinguda del Marquès de Mont-roig with the same goal: demanding greater police presence and effective solutions. They insist they will continue mobilizing until tranquility is restored.
