The expedition takes place coinciding with the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and aims to secure at least 15 vehicles, mainly ambulances, but also pickups and 4x4 cars. The presentation was supported by key figures in the Catalan business sector, such as Josep Santacreu, president of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, and Pau Relat, president of Fira de Barcelona.
“"I encourage the business world to collaborate so that the ambulance caravan collapses the AP-7."
In addition to vehicles, the humanitarian convoy seeks to transport generators, defibrillators, and emergency medical backpacks, given the destruction of energy infrastructure. Sister Lucía Caram described the current situation in Ukraine as “the worst moment of the war,” with millions of citizens surviving without light or heating in freezing temperatures.
“"The Catalan patron saint of humanitarian aid to Ukraine."
So far, the foundation has gathered seven ambulances, two pickups, and one 4x4. The expedition will depart from the Sagrada Família on February 20, following a blessing by Cardinal Joan Josep Omella. One of the vehicles was financed with funds from Pope Francis. The mission will also transport five Ukrainian soldiers who have received medical treatment in Catalonia.
