The storm has left the promenade at Barca Maria beach severely damaged, with several sections undermined and broken due to the strong waves. This damage extends to the underground infrastructure, specifically the Llevant collector.
This massive pipeline collects wastewater and rainwater from a large part of Badalona and transports it to the treatment plant in Sant Adrià de Besòs. Its proximity to the shoreline makes it extremely vulnerable to sea storms and surges.
Technicians from the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) have been deployed to the site to assess the full extent of the damage. The main objective is to analyze the necessary solutions to repair the damage detected along this section of the Badalona coastline.
Authorities do not rule out the possibility of new structural damage emerging once the storm definitively subsides, resulting from the continuous impact of the waves over the past few days. It is worth noting that in 2007, this same infrastructure suffered a major break in the section near Platja de la Mora.
