By the end of 2027, TMB will have one-third of its fleet operating with non-polluting technologies. The introduction of the new fleet will begin in August 2026 with 5 electric mini-buses and conclude in late 2027 with the arrival of 37 electric articulated buses recently put out to tender.
TMB President, Laia Bonet, highlighted the commitment to electrification for cleaner public mobility. She announced that 56 electric buses have been tendered, 26 for renewing existing vehicles and 30 to increase the fleet.
With this acquisition, TMB's total number of zero-emission buses will reach 372, exceeding 30% of the total fleet. The first vehicles to enter service will be 5 electric mini-buses of 7 meters from Yutong, with a tender of 1.5 million euros. By the end of the year, 24 articulated electric buses of 18 meters from ByD/Castrosua (18 million euros) will be incorporated, and in 2027, 20 standard 12-meter electric buses from IRIZAR (10.7 million euros) will be added.
A new tender will allow for the incorporation of 56 more electric buses during 2027: 19 standard buses (10.6 million euros), of which 13 will be allocated to increase the number of vehicles in service and 6 for fleet renewal. Additionally, 37 new articulated electric vehicles (29.6 million euros) will be tendered, 20 for renewal and 17 to expand the fleet.
Furthermore, 31 6-meter diesel mini-buses from Indcar (6.8 million euros) with Euro6 technology have been awarded. These vehicles will emit 86% less emissions than current ones.
The electric mini-buses are not suitable for all routes due to their large wheelbase and reduced passenger capacity. The new diesel mini-buses will renew the existing fleet, improving reliability and reducing pollution.
