Former Barcelona mayor, Xavier Trias, has expressed his belief that a grand coalition between Junts per Catalunya and the PSC would be beneficial for the governance of Catalonia, despite considering the socialists as electoral adversaries.

In an interview with La 2 Cat, Trias emphasized the need to revisit the old idea of “sociovergència,” a concept implying the union of the two major parties in the Catalan political landscape. According to the former mayor, this alliance could make considerable sense from the perspective of electoral programs.

"In this country, something that would be good is for JxCat to govern with the PSC one day."

Regarding Junts per Catalunya's relations with Aliança Catalana, Trias has shown openness to “rethinking them” and urged both formations to “sit down” and dialogue. He stated that he is not in favor of establishing a cordon sanitaire against the party led by the mayor of Ripoll, Sílvia Orriols, as he does not perceive her as Junts per Catalunya's “great political rival.”

"If we believe that, we are mistaken."
