Junts again asks Parliament to dismiss Sílvia Paneque and Óscar Puente over Rodalies chaos

The motion, which will be voted on next week, also demands the immediate 100% transfer of the service and the termination of the contract with Renfe.

The parliamentary group Junts has submitted a motion to the Catalan Parliament, to be voted on next week, demanding the dismissal of Territory Minister Sílvia Paneque and Transport Minister Óscar Puente, due to the management of the Rodalies (commuter rail) collapse.

The initiative, promoted by Carles Puigdemont's group, aims for the Catalan chamber to urge the president of the Generalitat to dismiss Paneque for what they consider poor crisis management, deficient user information, and the lack of efficient alternative transport plans. It is worth noting that the Parliament already requested the minister's dismissal in March of last year.
Likewise, the motion also calls for the censure and dismissal of the Spanish Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, due to chronic underinvestment in the rail network and repeated non-compliance with budgeted allocations. These factors, according to Junts, have led to the degradation of the Rodalies service and a generalized mobility collapse.
Among the more ambitious points of the motion, which could complicate support from other groups, is the request for the Generalitat to terminate the contract with Renfe regarding the management function, and for this role to be assumed directly by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC). It also advocates for an immediate and complete (100%) transfer of Rodalies, including infrastructure, rolling stock, and all necessary economic resources for pending investments.
The proposal states that the fundamental reason for the collapse is chronic underinvestment in infrastructure in Catalonia by the Spanish Government, lack of network maintenance by Adif, and negligence in service provision by Renfe. Junts also seeks for parliamentary groups in the Spanish Cortes not to support any initiative from Pedro Sánchez's government that directly or indirectly perpetuates the lack of investment.
Finally, the party advocates for the creation of a technical shock group with experts from FGC and external specialists to urgently audit the state of the network. Furthermore, it demands the establishment of protocols for surgical cuts during serious incidents, and that the Catalan government requires Renfe and Adif to assume all direct and indirect costs caused by the rail collapse, including making affected road tolls free.
