The Department of Territory, Adif, the Besòs Consortium, and the Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council are collaborating to improve the R1 line's crossing over the Besòs river and reduce flood risk.

The authorities are defining actions to improve the current railway bridge of the R1 line as it crosses the Besòs river in Sant Adrià de Besòs, aiming to minimize flood risk following recent torrential rains.
Currently, the R1 line uses an iron bridge from the 1940s, situated at a lower elevation than the bridge on Eduard Maristany Avenue (1992). The configuration and elevation of the railway bridge limit the river's hydraulic capacity, which could lead to the line's closure and exacerbate flood risk during significant floods.
Two lines of work are underway: one for the short term, involving a project to improve the existing bridge to ensure its resistance to floods, and another for the medium term, which includes drafting a project for a new bridge. This new bridge will have the same drainage capacity as the Eduard Maristany Avenue bridge to withstand exceptional floods.
