Tomorrow, Saturday, November 7th, marks the International Day of Medical Physics, a date chosen to coincide with the birth of Marie Curie, a pioneer in the field of radioactivity and its health applications. This discipline is fundamental to ensuring safety and precision in the use of radiation in healthcare.
Medical Physicists or Hospital Radio-physicists apply the knowledge of Physics to healthcare, directly contributing to the care of patients with diseases like cancer, in diagnostics, and in research for adequate treatments. At the Sant Joan de Reus University Hospital, they work in the areas of Radiotherapy, Nuclear Medicine, Radiodiagnostics, and Radiological Protection.
Medical Physics aims to optimize medical treatments and diagnostics while minimizing risks to the patient through rigorous quality control. To commemorate this day, an informative exhibition has been organized and will be available on the Hospital's avenue for the coming weeks.
