The century-old tradition of Els Pastorets at the Casal Catòlic reached a turning point in 2019, when Mercè Català and Anaïs Muniesa took over the direction. This new phase has allowed the work to be revitalized without losing its essence, thanks to the effort of the hundred people who make the performances possible.
“"We have more people involved behind the scenes."
The team's most significant commitment has been the recovery of live music, which now features an orchestra of violins, cellos, double bass, and percussion. This enriches the classic text by Josep Maria Folch i Torres, focusing on the adventures of Lluquet and Rovelló against Satanàs and Llucifer.
In addition to the traditional performances (December 25, 26, 27 and January 3, 4), the company offers the special version Els Pastorets fan Llufa on December 28. In this show, the plot is humorously inverted, allowing hell to triumph, and incorporating touches of current affairs as a lighthearted metaphor.
“"There has been a very significant increase in ticket sales thanks to the live music. People say: how great that there is live music, how great they act…"
