The municipalities of Bagà and Sant Julià de Cerdanyola are preparing for the Fia-Faia, the ancestral winter solstice celebration that will take place on Christmas Eve.

This Sunday, the prelude to the festival will take place at the Torre de Faia, within the municipality of Gisclareny, with the lighting of the Fia-Faia Fire. This symbolic act, recovered in 2021, marks the official start of the countdown and symbolizes the survival of the tradition that unites the two towns.

Fia-Faia, for our Lord has been born in the straw!

The main collective ceremony will begin on the afternoon of December 24. It is expected that more than a thousand 'faies' (torches) will be burned between the two locations. The torches will descend from the Siti towards Bagà and from the Closa towards Sant Julià de Cerdanyola, forming a “snake of fire” down to the squares, where they will join the 'faies' lit in the streets and balconies.

"This year we are vigilant again and, if the number of torches in the descent increases significantly, we will have to consider restrictions."

The 2025 edition is marked by three anniversaries. It commemorates 25 years since the recovery of the torch descent from the Siti, the first edition of which is remembered for having been held in the snow. It has also been 15 years since the Fia-Faia was recognized as a National Heritage Festival by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Finally, the celebration coincides with the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the Falles of the Pyrenees as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco. Parallel events have been held for this reason, such as a concert by Núria Conangla at the Sant Esteve church and the placement of a commemorative plaque in the Plaça Porxada.
