The decision, taken at the board meeting, ensures the continuity of Fainé, aged 83, at the helm of Catalonia's main business holding company. The position of vice president, held by Javier Godó, was also renewed, along with prominent trustees such as José María Álvarez-Pallete, Francesc Homs, and Pablo Isla.
In addition to the renewals, the board appointed Baldiri Ros as a new trustee for a two-year period, proposed by the Institut Agrícola Català de Sant Isidre, replacing Xavier Brossa. The La Caixa Foundation holds stakes in major companies such as CaixaBank, Naturgy, Telefónica, ACS, Veolia, and Inbursa through Criteria.
“"It is an honor to be able to continue giving continuity to a project that, thanks to the independence of action granted by more than 120 years of history, remains faithful to its principles and its vocation of service to society and people in situations of greater vulnerability."
During the meeting, the accounts for the 2025 financial year were approved, in which 655 million euros were allocated to social work, serving nearly 250,000 people in Spain and Portugal. Furthermore, the budget for 2026 was approved, increasing by 8.4% year-on-year to 710 million euros, aligning with the strategic plan for 2025-2030.
The re-election occurred on the same day that the British newspaper Financial Times published an extensive profile on Fainé, questioning the entity's internal governance and the complex issue of succession.
