The village of la Nou de Berguedà is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its Our Lady of Lourdes sanctuary, the first temple in Spain dedicated to the French apparition.

Founded in 1878 by the priest Antoni Comellas, the site began as a modified natural spring designed to resemble the famous grotto where Bernadette Soubirous witnessed the Virgin Mary. Located in the Catllaràs mountain range, the site quickly became a popular pilgrimage destination in central Catalonia.
The neoclassical church was inaugurated in 1885 and is now part of the Architectural Heritage Inventory of Catalonia. Visitors can explore the area through the Un tomb per la Nou trail, a 2-kilometer walk that showcases local landmarks such as the 13th-century Avellanosa mill and the Agudes coal mine.
This historical site remains a key attraction for the Berguedà region, combining religious heritage with the natural beauty of the Pyrenees foothills and traditional local cuisine.
