The Municipal Plenary of Gironella approved on Tuesday evening the budget project for 2027, amounting to 9,711,850.50 euros. This figure represents an increase of 1,674,322.50 euros compared to 2026, consolidating a trend of sustained growth in municipal accounts over the last decade, which have risen from 6.23 million in 2017 to the 9.71 million projected for 2027.
One of the key features of this budget is the focus on investments, totaling 3,030,325.50 euros, a 68.64% increase from the previous year. This allocation, representing 31.2% of the total budget, will enable improvements to public spaces, modernization of facilities, and renovation of infrastructure, aligning with the Municipal Action Plan (2023-2027) and responding to citizen demands.
Among the planned investments are the pacification and renaturalization of Farguell street (1,070,102 euros), the redevelopment of Cal Bassacs square (465,000 euros), actions on the sanitation and water network (419,215 euros), reinforcement of the roof and creation of a new training room at the municipal pavilion (195,500 euros), installation of digital water meters (189,357 euros), improvements in cultural buildings (172,000 euros), street paving (150,000 euros), slope repair in Sant Antoni (90,000 euros), creation of a 50-space municipal car park (66,345 euros), fire prevention actions (53,529 euros), improvements to municipal roads (51,326.50 euros), and energy efficiency improvements in educational centers (35,781.50 euros).
The budget also includes the reinforcement of municipal services with new staff hires, such as a new local agent to ensure coverage on Sundays and holidays, and a civic agent. A weekly reinforcement for street cleaning will be implemented, and 40,000 euros are allocated to green spaces. Scholarships for books and school supplies are consolidated, and the Home Care Service (SAD) is expanded.
Mayor David Font frames this reinforcement as a response to the town's growth, which now exceeds 5,000 inhabitants. Budget execution has been around 90% in recent years, with a forecast of 88.24% for 2026. The early approval of the budget will allow the municipality to start 2027 with fully operational accounts from day one.
Regarding taxes and fees, a 2% increase is approved for 2027, below the CPI. The average increase in the water bill will be 1.39 euros per quarter, and for property tax (IBI), approximately 7 euros annually per household. The waste collection fee remains frozen, compensated by a variable charge for those who do not participate correctly in the collection system.
