The former deputy mayor of Puigcerdà, Jordi Palomino, who broke with Junts in April, will lead a new list aiming to reorganize the local political landscape. This initiative has the explicit backing of the Partit dels Socialistes de Catalunya (PSC), which currently has no representation in the council, as well as other formations like Units per Avançar and Ara Pacte Local.
“"The PSC is currently the political space that best connects with the 'pragmatism' attributed to Jordi Pujol, in contrast to the direction Junts has taken."
The decision is framed by the political instability the municipality has experienced since the 2023 elections. In those elections, ERC was the most voted force, but Junts and Futur agreed on a shared mayoralty between Jordi Gassió (Junts) and Francesc Armengol (Futur). Palomino, then deputy mayor, opposed this agreement, causing a serious internal crisis.
The tension culminated in February, when Gassió dismissed Palomino for “loss of confidence,” leading him to become a non-attached councilor. Two months later, in April, Palomino formally broke with Junts, the party chaired by Carles Puigdemont.
The crisis resulted in a motion of no confidence in July, which succeeded with the votes of ERC, Palomino, and two Futur councilors, removing Gassió. Since then, the mayoralty has been held by Joan Manel Serra of ERC. Palomino's new platform is finalizing the procedures for its formal constitution.
