Last Friday, August 14th, Montellà buzzed with an intense cultural session organized by the Cerdanya Research Group (GRC) and the Friends of Montellà Group. The event attracted a large audience interested in recovering the region's historical memory.
The gathering began at 5:30 PM with the presentation of the 39th issue of Querol magazine, by Enric Quílez, president of the GRC. This publication continues to be a benchmark for disseminating Cerdanya's heritage.
Subsequently, the historiography of the Civil War in Cerdanya took center stage. Joan Peitx, a contributor to the magazine, outlined the current state of research on the conflict in the region. Following him, historian Marc Pont delved into the events at the end of the war in Baridà and analyzed the condition of the Bunkers Park in Martinet as a key site for understanding the post-war period.
From an institutional perspective, the mayor of Montellà i Martinet, Roser Bombardó, proposed an ambitious project to expand and consolidate the Bunkers Park, aiming to transform it into a leading research center on the Civil War and its aftermath.
The day concluded by blending history and fiction with the presentation of the novel La val furiosa, by Joan Peitx. The work of fiction, strongly tied to the territory, is set during the turbulent years of the Civil War in Cerdanya, featuring recognizable locations such as Puigcerdà and Bellver de Cerdanya.
The successful attendance and the quality of the presentations underscored the commitment of Cerdanya's entities to maintaining historical research and debate within the region.
