The Catalan Volunteer Firefighters Association has voiced its opposition to the relocation of Puigcerdà volunteers starting April 1st, when the station will transition to a fully professional staff model.

The organization describes the move as a forced transfer, arguing that these firefighters hold their positions at the local station and have the right to continue serving their community. The Generalitat's plan suggests moving them to nearby towns such as Alp, Bellver, or Llívia.

"It makes no sense for the Generalitat to suddenly decide to do without firefighters with years of experience and local knowledge."

Members of the Cerdanya station have reportedly received emails offering them three choices: transferring to a different station, retiring as veterans, or leaving the Fire Department entirely. The association claims this decision undermines the mixed-model system used successfully across Catalonia.
