The Conca de Barberà region will see its emergency management capacity strengthened with the expansion of Civil Protection's territorial services in Tarragona, including more staff and vehicles for prevention and response.

The reorganization and increase of resources for Civil Protection, promoted by the Government, will have a direct impact on the Conca de Barberà, a region with high exposure to forest and meteorological risks. This area, part of the Tarragona territorial service, will benefit from the increase in personnel and technical means being deployed throughout the country.
The Tarragona service, which covers the Conca de Barberà, has doubled its team, increasing from five to ten professionals. This reinforcement significantly enhances the capacity for action and preventive planning. The team incorporates specialized technicians and consolidates a more robust structure to support municipalities in emergency management and the development of self-protection plans.
The Conca de Barberà is characterized by extensive forest and agricultural areas, which increases the risk of fires, especially during the summer months. Recent events have highlighted the vulnerability of this environment to extreme heat and prolonged drought conditions.

"It is important to bring services closer to the territory and work hand in hand with the local community."

the Minister of Interior
With this reinforcement, the aim is to improve coordination with local councils and intensify prevention actions, such as reviewing municipal plans, training, and raising public awareness. The main objective is to anticipate potential emergencies and minimize their effects. This support is crucial for the small municipalities in the region, ensuring an effective response to risk situations.
The improvement plan also includes an increase in the vehicle fleet, which will grow from 10 to 108 vehicles in two years. This expansion will facilitate faster action in rural and hard-to-reach areas, which are common in the Conca de Barberà. This strategy is part of Civil Protection's adaptation to the effects of climate change, which causes more frequent episodes of fires, intense rainfall, and heatwaves.
