The director of the Catalan Water Agency (ACA) met with the mayor of Cubelles, Rosa Fonoll, and the councilor Josep Ma. Hugué, to review key projects and improve hydraulic infrastructure, sanitation, and flood prevention.

The meeting served to positively assess the existing collaboration and agree on the importance of promoting strategic actions, which the ACA will prioritize according to budgetary availability and project status.
Among the topics discussed is the expansion and improvement of the Cunit-Cubelles pumping station, with an estimated investment of 3 million euros. This project, currently in the final stages of drafting the construction project, will significantly improve existing overflow problems and reduce the impact on the protected natural area of the ZEPA. Once the Consell Comarcal del Baix Penedès has the final project and the corresponding environmental procedures are completed, progress can be made.
The status of future improvement works for the Foix reservoir was also analyzed. The project to rehabilitate the dam's bottom outlets is currently being drafted to ensure the infrastructure's safety and operability. In parallel, maintaining a 20% reserve of the reservoir's capacity is being studied to balance the water supply for irrigators with the management of downstream flows.
Regarding flood risk reduction in the final stretch of the Foix River, the imminent signing of an agreement to draft a floodability study was addressed. This project, with an investment of 80,000 euros, will improve drainage on the left bank of the river and analyze the suitability of the road under the railway bridge. The agreement is expected to be formalized before the end of the year.
Both the ACA and the Cubelles City Council expressed satisfaction with the roadmap and the good rapport, reiterating their commitment to continue working together to improve environmental quality, hydraulic safety, and the municipality's resilience to the effects of climate change.
