The rescue took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the afternoon, when the windsurfer was left adrift near the breakwater of Port Ginesta, in Sitges. According to reports, his board had broken, and the strong current prevented him from returning to shore.
The operation was coordinated by the Barcelona Maritime Rescue Coordination Center, which deployed the Helimer 204 helicopter. Operational teams described the intervention as risky due to the rough sea conditions and the intensity of the wind associated with Storm Harry.
“"We reiterate the importance of following official recommendations, not entering the sea or flood zones, and not approaching riverbeds and streams."
The Catalan Mediterranean coast continues to suffer the effects of Storm Harry, which has triggered maritime alerts for intense waves and strong winds. Emergency services emphasize the importance of avoiding water activities and exposed coastal areas while weather warnings remain in effect.
