The Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council launched a special protection plan this March 1st at Ribes Roges beach to safeguard the nesting season of the Kentish plover arriving from Africa.

Three pairs of these birds have already been spotted starting their delicate breeding stage. To ensure their safety, authorities have prohibited dogs from the beach section between Sant Joan stream and the Pasífae sculpture, as dogs pose the highest risk to the nests.

"Dogs represent the main risk for the species during this nesting stage."

New rope and pole fences have been installed to create restricted zones. Environmental officers, alongside Local Police, will monitor the area. Other local beaches, such as Sant Gervasi and Far, remain open to dogs during this period.
