A man suffered mild intoxication and was evacuated to Olot Hospital after a faulty pellet stove caused heavy smoke in an apartment on Esgleiers Street, in Olot, on Thursday morning, January 8.

The incident took place shortly after eleven in the morning in a residential block on Esgleiers Street. Four units of the Bombers de la Generalitat (Firefighters) were quickly dispatched to the scene, alerted by the large amount of smoke emanating from the property.
Inside the apartment, the crew located the source of the problem: a pellet stove that had a hole through which smoke was leaking, spreading throughout the entire block. The affected man was treated by the SEM (Emergency Medical Services) and evacuated with minor injuries to Olot Hospital.
The main task of the Firefighters was the exhaustive ventilation of the affected home, as well as the staircase and several floors of the building that had been filled with smoke. They finally recommended that the tenant not restart the stove until a complete technical inspection had been carried out to ensure safety.
