The board of directors of Aena has greenlit the DORA III investment plan, allocating 12.888 billion euros to the national airport network between 2027 and 2031.

At Girona-Costa Brava airport, the plan highlights the construction of a walkway to connect the terminal with the future high-speed rail station. Other improvements include upgrades to the boarding area and the non-Schengen arrivals zone.
To fund these developments, Aena proposes an average annual fee increase of 0.43 euros per passenger. The company justifies the hike by citing the need to maintain safety and capacity for an estimated 1.69 billion passengers over the five-year period.
Barcelona-El Prat airport is set to receive 23% of the total budget, exceeding 3 billion euros for terminal reconfigurations. The final document awaits approval from the Spanish Cabinet, expected by September 2026.
