Catalonia has solidified its position in 2026 as an international film set, attracting major Hollywood productions and national series that select locations such as Girona.

Data confirms that Catalonia is firmly establishing itself as a top-tier audiovisual production hub during 2026. One of the most ambitious projects is Enredados (Tangled), the live-action musical adaptation by The Walt Disney Company, directed by Michael Gracey. Filming, set to begin this June, will take place in Girona's Old Town and other provincial locations, recreating the kingdom of Corona following a large-scale casting call at the Fira de Girona.
The Catalan territory also hosts other major Hollywood productions, such as The Last Druid, starring Russell Crowe and Rose Leslie, filmed at Can Sant Joan. Although the production has been temporarily halted by the Generalitat due to swine fever prevention measures, its presence underscores Catalonia's appeal.
In the series domain, notable productions include Gènesi (3Cat and Netflix), focusing on the legacy of Ferran Adrià and elBulli, and the biographical production Caballé, directed by Patricia Ortega. These are joined by Catalan works such as L(IA) by Patricia Font, the thriller Cronos about the Rambla attack, Burundanga by José Corbacho, and Alberto Gross's debut feature Catorze de març, shot at the Terrassa studios.
This cinematic effervescence builds upon past milestones like the filming of Game of Thrones in Girona or Westworld in Besalú. Currently, the phenomenon remains vibrant with local projects, such as the short film Claro de Luna by Érika Coll, filmed at the Santa Maria de Blanes church and starring Ivan Luengo, which addresses the impact of Alzheimer's. Nearby, Castell de Santa Florentina in Canet de Mar is hosting the filming of the feature film El Caso Vitruvio.
