The Marrecs de Salt 'colla' celebrated its 30th anniversary this Sunday with an extra-level performance in Girona's Plaça del Vi, complemented by concerts and a parade.

Marrecs de Salt marked their three decades of history with a 'castells' event in Girona's Plaça del Vi. The occasion featured the participation of Castellers de Vilafranca and Colla Jove dels Xiquets de Tarragona. The Vilafranca group successfully completed a 4 of 9 with 'folre' and 'agulla', a 'castell' never before achieved in the Girona square. The Salt team, meanwhile, managed the 4 of 8, the 7 of 8, and the 3 of 8.
The 'colla' leader of Marrecs, Sergi Camps, highlighted the group's health and its ability to achieve eight-story 'castells', enabling them to aim for higher challenges. "We have revalidated a performance from last October, which allows us to believe this will be a great year and we will accompany the 30th anniversary with great 'castells'," stated Camps, expressing optimism for the season.
The festive day also included a parade through the city center and concerts in Parc de la Devesa, serving as the celebration's finale. Camps mentioned that the 'colla' is working on the tower of 8, although the next planned debut is the 2 of 8 with 'folre', once the younger members mature further.
In addition to their anniversary celebration, Marrecs de Salt were recently announced as the opening speakers for Salt's Festa Major. Camps expressed his pride in this honor, viewing it as recognition for the group's efforts in promoting popular culture and the 'castells' tradition in the municipality.
The Salt City Council emphasized that selecting the Marrecs as opening speakers acknowledges their contribution to promoting the name of Salt over three decades. The mayor, Cristina Alarcón, noted that the 30th anniversary makes them "ideal" opening speakers to celebrate with "the entire town."
