The Girona City Council and Bàsquet Girona have joined forces to apply for European funding aimed at modernizing the lighting and other technological aspects of the Fontajau Pavilion, seeking to resolve recurring issues at the facility.

The collaboration between the Girona City Council and Bàsquet Girona is intensifying due to repeated problems at the Fontajau Pavilion, especially concerning its lighting. Both parties have issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to a future concession of the facility to the club.
Until the concession materializes, the Girona city council has pledged to carry out the necessary actions to ensure normality during matches. Among these measures, the acquisition of an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) has already been announced to prevent power outages during sporting events.
In addition to the UPS purchase, the City Council and the club are jointly working on submitting applications for European funding. The goal is to significantly improve the lighting and modernize various technological aspects of the pavilion, which was built 33 years ago.

It is a priority to have facilities adequate for the demands of competition at the highest levels, both for athletes and technical staff and for the experience of citizens, fans, followers, and attending public.

One of the projects submitted to obtain these funds is to the RedCyTI program, an initiative that promotes smart cities and territories to foster economic and productive development. This investment is seen as crucial to address the passage of time and technical advancements, which make improvement actions essential in a facility with over three decades of history.
