The Girona City Council unanimously approved on Monday the eviction of 25 homeless people living in the former Simon factory to make way for the Comtessa Ermessenda high school.

The identified individuals have ten business days to vacate the premises on Carrer Barcelona once notified. The site has recently seen several fires and police interventions, leading to neighborhood complaints. The council aims to reclaim the space for public use, specifically for a long-awaited educational facility.

"The city has the responsibility to recover and guarantee that spaces destined for public facilities fulfill their function."

Mayor Lluc Salellas confirmed that social services and the Municipal Police are involved in the transition. The new school will accommodate 690 students, replacing temporary classrooms currently located in Palau. The architectural project, valued at 734,000 euros, is being handled by Casa Solo Arquitectos.
