The Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) has confirmed the conclusion of the special operation for the May 1st long weekend departure, with a total of 575,651 vehicles, 99% of those anticipated, having left the Barcelona metropolitan area between 12:00 PM yesterday and 3:00 PM this Friday.
The main complications were concentrated on the access routes to the Costa Brava. Traffic jams were reported on the C-35 and C-65 between Llagostera and Cassà de la Selva heading towards Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Congestion was also detected on the N-II between Tordera and Vidreres, and on the C-17 near Ripoll.
The AP-7 also experienced several kilometers of traffic jams in both directions. Towards Girona, the most notable affected areas were Mollet del Vallès, La Roca del Vallès, and between Llinars del Vallès and Sant Celoni. Towards Tarragona, more than ten kilometers of congestion accumulated between Castellví de Rosanes and Castellbisbal, and over seven kilometers between Castellet i la Gornal and Olèrdola.
Sources from Traffic explained that this departure operation is the first of significant scale since Easter. The coincidence with the beginning of the month and advanced spring has led to displacements being distributed towards both coastal destinations and inland areas.
