The Mossos d'Esquadra have intensified surveillance on the AP-7 and other major roads like the C-32 through the Kanpai Pista operation, an initiative to combat repeat offenses and enhance road safety, particularly in the Girona region.

This police operation focuses on the prevention and prosecution of common crimes on these infrastructures, such as thefts from roadsides and service areas, as well as cargo robberies from trucks. According to the force, these activities are frequently carried out by criminal groups who use the road network for easy movement.

Since the beginning of the year, crimes have decreased by 37% compared to the same period last year, while in the Girona region the drop reaches 50%.

The initial results of the plan are promising. Since the start of the year, there has been a 37% decrease in overall crimes, with an even more significant reduction of 50% in the Girona region. Furthermore, an increase in arrests and identifications has been observed. A recent example is a special operation carried out last Friday, where 245 officers participated in the arrest of three individuals, the identification of 181 people (many with criminal records), and the seizure of a vehicle.
The AP-7 is considered a critical point by the police, as it concentrates most of the criminal incidents on the Catalan road network and is a vital artery for tourists and transporters. Thieves use tactics such as 'tire-puncturing' to distract drivers or steal goods from trucks parked overnight.
With the Kanpai Pista operation, the Mossos d'Esquadra aim to increase police pressure and ensure that the main highways are safer spaces, especially during periods of high mobility such as Easter Week.
