The ERC local assembly in Girona elected Salva Romero as its new president this Tuesday, concluding a tense process that saw the previous leadership resign in protest over alleged democratic irregularities.

Salva Romero and Annabel Moya secured 48 out of 52 votes in an extraordinary meeting attended by party official Pau Morales. The change follows a period of internal friction between the former local board and supporters of the 2027 mayoral candidate, Marc Puigtió, who is backed by the party's national headquarters.
The outgoing board issued a statement criticizing the assembly, claiming it was forced through despite their mass resignation. They argued that according to internal rules, a new election should have been called instead of proceeding with a motion of censure. They also pointed out that voter turnout was below 50% of the 107 registered members.

"It is time to work together with the head of the list to offer Girona a positive city project."
