The Solgironès WTA 125 tournament, held in La Bisbal from April 27 to May 3, strengthens its position as a benchmark in Catalan women's tennis by partnering with the Open Catalonia of the Catalan Tennis Federation.

This edition of the Solgironès, taking place at the Club Tennis La Bisbal facilities, marks a turning point in its trajectory. The collaboration with the Open Catalonia, an itinerant initiative by the Catalan Tennis Federation that has already visited Reus, Lleida, and Vic, solidifies the tournament as a key event for women's tennis in Catalonia.

"The idea when the Catalonia Open was born was to decentralize women's tennis in Catalonia. In this fourth edition, in Girona, the ideal club is La Bisbal. We have joined forces because we want to work together and promote an initiative that positions Catalonia worldwide as a benchmark for women's tennis."

Jordi Tamayo · President of the Catalan Tennis Federation and Vice-President of the Spanish Tennis Federation
The partnership between the WTA La Bisbal and the Catalan Tennis Federation combines the experience of an established tournament with the federation's drive. This synergy aims to boost women's tennis and project Catalonia internationally. The president of Club Tennis La Bisbal, Xavier Ponsatí, highlighted institutional support and the novelty of having two tournament directors, Marta Sànchez and Neus Àvila, as a testament to their commitment to women's tennis.
The tournament promises a top-tier lineup, featuring prominent players such as Leylah Fernández, US Open 2021 finalist and current world number 24; Xinyu Wang, world number 34 and Olympic silver medalist; Barbora Krejcikova, double Grand Slam champion; and Katerina Siniakova, with 10 Grand Slam doubles titles. The overlap with the second week of the Mutua Madrid Open could influence the final participation of some of these figures.

"The top eight players are among the top 51 in the world rankings, a very significant figure for a WTA 125 tournament. We will undoubtedly have a great level of tennis."

Neus Àvila · Tournament Director
One of the most emotional moments of the edition will be the farewell of Aliona Bolsova, a player much loved by the local public and closely associated with the tournament. Bolsova has chosen the Catalonia Open Solgironès to conclude her sports career. The tribute will take place on Saturday, May 2, after the doubles final, on the central court.
Beyond the competition, the Open Catalonia Solgironès will offer a program of parallel activities, including a talk on the role of women in sports and awareness-raising activities about inclusive tennis in schools in La Bisbal. The tournament maintains free admission and can be followed on Teledeporte, TV Girona, Marca TV, and Esport3.
