The incident occurred in Girona's Rambla, where a group of four men, described as punk in appearance, had been under police surveillance since the beginning of the week for engaging in uncivil behavior and creating a sense of insecurity in the Barri Vell. On the afternoon of April 9, 2026, a Municipal Police patrol attempted to identify two of them who were consuming alcohol in public and begging.
According to police sources, around 7:40 PM, officers requested identification, but one of the men reacted aggressively. As the situation escalated, reinforcements were requested. Before their arrival, an anti-riot van from the Girona Regional Operational Resources Area (ARRO) intervened in a crowd at the end of the Rambla.
At that moment, the most aggressive man spat in the face of a Mossos corporal, leading to his arrest. During the restraint, he bit another ARRO officer on the elbow and injured his nose when falling to the ground. Furthermore, he spat blood at the officers and assaulted one of them with scratches and blows. The individual, 36 years old and of Moroccan origin, with no prior record, was arrested for assault, resistance, and disobedience to authority, and also reported for damages.
While this arrest was taking place, another member of the group, 26 years old, of German origin and also with no prior record, attempted to prevent it by assaulting a Municipal Police officer. This second individual was also arrested for the same offenses. Both detainees were taken to the Mossos d'Esquadra Vista Alegre police station and are expected to appear before the Girona Duty Investigating Court. Four Mossos officers sustained minor contusions.
