The Caldes d'Estrac City Council and the company Veolia have formalized a collaboration agreement aimed at guaranteeing water access for individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties. The mayor, Elisabeth Segura, and the director of Veolia in the Maresme region, Aaron Canas, signed the document this Tuesday, October 13th.
This agreement, valid for three years, establishes a coordination protocol between municipal Social Services and the supply company. The objective is to identify situations of vulnerability, prevent supply cuts, and offer aid to cover water bills, continuing a collaboration that began in 2017.
Veolia will contribute 4,000 euros annually to a Solidarity Fund. These funds will be used for grants to fully or partially cover outstanding water bill debts, as well as service connection fees. The town council's Social Services will be responsible for evaluating applications and processing cases that meet the established requirements.
When Social Services verify a situation of economic vulnerability or risk of residential exclusion, Veolia commits to not suspending the supply as long as this condition persists. The submission of a registered application for a social report will also halt any planned disconnection actions while the report is pending.
For occasional payment difficulties, the agreement provides for interest-free deferrals and payment installments. It also includes advice on social tariffs and discounts, as well as free title changes when necessary to access social benefits.
A joint commission, composed of representatives from the City Council and Veolia, will meet at least once a year to monitor commitments and review the fund's allocation, which can be increased by mutual agreement.
Individuals and families needing assistance with their water bills can contact the City Council's Social Services, where professionals will provide personalized advice on available aid. They can also contact Veolia directly for information on social tariffs, discounts, and payment options.
