“"From the obstetrics team, we carry out continuous training to offer pregnant women close support that makes them feel comfortable and safe. Therefore, whenever medical circumstances allow, we intervene as little as possible. But we must consider that a cesarean section is a necessary intervention in many cases to protect the mother and the baby."

The Calella Hospital, managed by the Corporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva, has positioned itself as the public regional hospital with the fewest low-risk cesarean sections performed during 2025 in Catalonia, recording 15.44% of births.
This figure, published by the Central de Resultats de l’Agència de Qualitat i Avaluació Sanitàries de Catalunya (AQuAS), places the center almost 5 points below the Catalan average (20.97%). Low-risk cesarean sections are those performed on pregnant women without medical complications or serious risk factors.
The data reflects a downward trend since 2021, when the percentage was 21.36%. From 2022 onwards, the average has been around 14.42% between 2022 and 2024, thanks to the implementation of new care protocols, continuous team training, and the incorporation of resources such as a natural birth room with a bathtub.
Dr. Marta González, Head of Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the Corporació de Salut del Maresme i la Selva, highlighted the team's crucial role in these positive results, emphasizing the professionals' commitment to providing obstetric care tailored to each pregnant woman's clinical needs.
