The Calella City Council has started construction to convert the historic Municipal Market into a modern Civic Center, involving an investment of 2.6 million euros and an estimated duration of one year.

The comprehensive renovation of the building, designed by the architect Jeroni Martorell, will increase the built surface area from 726 m² to almost 1,100 m² thanks to the incorporation of a new mezzanine floor. This transformation seeks to revitalize the cultural and social life of Calella.
The future Civic Center will feature an open-plan ground floor, with a central space, reception, and a multipurpose room for concerts, conferences, or presentations. Additionally, there will be rooms for smaller activities such as workshops and musical rehearsals, including a 50 m² cooking classroom.

The goal is to convert the old market into a cultural and social meeting point of reference in Calella.

The first floor will house specialized rooms for crafts and physical activity, along with a second exhibition space and administrative areas. The project is committed to sustainability, maximizing natural light and installing a geothermal pump to reduce energy consumption.
The rehabilitation highlights the value of the historic building, declared a local cultural asset of interest in 2014, preserving the most characteristic architectural elements designed by Martorell and adapting them to the needs of a facility open to all citizens.
