The Premià de Mar Investigation Unit of the Mossos d'Esquadra has dismantled an organization operating since September, providing fraudulent registrations to over 130 people in the Maresme region.

The investigation revealed that the criminal group had obtained an estimated profit of up to 100,000 euros, charging between 450 and 800 euros for each registration. The detainees falsified rental contracts, using unaware property owners as landlords.

The scheme used the fraudulent registrations to facilitate access to administrative and health services, violating the rights of foreign citizens and making fraudulent use of the Social Security system.

These fake documents were used to request registration at local town halls, subsequently allowing the group to register other individuals in an irregular situation, mostly immigrants from South Asia.
The Mossos detected extreme situations in several homes in the region, including one address where 19 people were registered and another with 15. In total, 29 property owners were victims of identity theft in municipalities such as Montgat, Tiana, Vilassar de Mar, el Masnou, Premià de Mar, and Teià.
The arrests took place on December 15 in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Parets del Vallès, Gavà, and Barcelona. The arrested individuals were brought before the court on December 17 in Mataró, charged with document forgery, fraud, and crimes against the Social Security system.
