The initiative received support from Junts, ERC, the CUP, and Ara Pacte Local, while Vox voted against and the PP abstained. The motion focuses on the R1 line, the main mobility axis of the region, following recent serious incidents in the Catalan network, including derailments, service suspensions, and tragically, a death.
The Council emphasizes that these events are not isolated incidents, but the direct consequence of years of disinvestment, lack of maintenance, and a management model they consider detached from the territory. This situation has a severe impact on Maresme, a densely populated area critically dependent on public transport and the train for its daily activity.
Among the approved measures, the Council demands an urgent, exhaustive, and public audit of the railway infrastructure in Maresme, as well as a clear calendar of investments and actions on the R1 line. They also requested the establishment of a direct communication channel between the Local Councils and ADIF to ensure a rapid response to any incident or risk.
Finally, the Plenary demands that Rodalies be treated as an essential public service, with unified protocols for adverse weather events or geotechnical risks. Furthermore, they requested the structural reinforcement of alternative public road transport and the acceleration of the effective transfer of the R1 line, accompanied by the necessary resources and competencies for investment and maintenance.
