The criminal complaint was filed after Local Police officers detected the act of vandalism during a routine patrol in the city's old town. The force reported that the Mataró City Council plans to claim the costs resulting from the damage caused to the urban furniture, which exceed 500 euros.
This incident marks the second significant act of vandalism suffered by central Mataró in recent weeks. Previously, Santa Teresa Street, another important commercial area, appeared covered in graffiti, an incident denounced by local merchants.
The affected planters are part of the new urban furniture installed following the reurbanization of Sant Josep Street. This project concluded almost a year ago with the transformation of the road into a single platform, prioritizing pedestrians and aiming to boost commercial activity.
The renovation, inaugurated during the Christmas holidays, includes benches, meeting points, and planters designed to bring greenery and improve the aesthetics of the old town. The furniture is designed to be temporarily removed if necessary, such as during events like Les Santes festivities.
