The Mayor of Sant Vicenç de Montalt resigned on September 17, 2020, after being accused of sexual harassment by a municipal worker, plunging the municipality into a new institutional crisis.

The resignation occurred the day after the governing partners announced the withdrawal of their support for the local executive following the serious accusations made by a City Council employee. This event marked a turning point in the municipal politics of Sant Vicenç de Montalt, in the Maresme region.
This situation of instability was not new to the municipality. Two years earlier, in September 2018, a motion of censure had removed the previous mayor, Miquel Àngel Martínez, due to alleged irregular works on his private property funded with municipal resources.
In fact, Martínez left the JxSVM municipal group in July 2020 to become a non-attached councilor. Furthermore, the council also experienced the arrest and subsequent return of a PP councilor accused of fraud offenses between November 2019 and January 2020.

The succession of resignations and serious accusations has highlighted the deep political instability experienced by the Sant Vicenç de Montalt council in recent years.
