The Bombers de la Generalitat (Generalitat Firefighters) has declared the forest fire that broke out in Sant Quirze Safaja, in the Moianès region, as stabilized. After seven hours of continuous work, the perimeter of the affected area has been successfully delimited.
According to Robert Zaera, head of support for Bombers, containment was achieved by controlling the upper part of the mountain, where the fire was advancing uphill. The terrain's topography presented challenges for firefighting efforts. At the peak of operations, 38 units were deployed, including 31 ground teams and 7 aerial units.
Due to the fire's proximity, a preventive confinement was ordered for residents of the Moianès municipality, as well as for people staying at a nearby campsite and restaurant, affecting approximately 700 individuals. This safety measure has now been lifted.
“"We declare the Sant Quirze Safaja fire STABILIZED."
Despite the stabilization, the intervention chief, Joan Reyes, urged the public to avoid the affected area, as the fire is not yet completely extinguished.
Provisional data from Agents Rurals (Rural Agents) indicate that around 14 hectares of vegetation have been affected by the combustion, primarily forest land. Firefighting teams will continue working through the night to fully extinguish the remaining flames.
The emergency alert was received at 13:22, originating near the BV-1341 road, above the l'Illa campsite. Responding units positioned vehicles on both flanks to combat the uphill advance of the flames.
As a precautionary measure, the campsite and a nearby restaurant were ordered to be confined, and the BV-1341 road was completely closed. Later, the measure was extended to isolate the urban center of Sant Quirze Safaja, its housing developments, scattered homes, and access roads to the C-59, affecting about 700 people.
The provisionally affected area spans approximately 14 hectares, with 0.4 hectares being agricultural land and 13.6 hectares being forest. Bombers are operating within a 10.6-hectare area, supported by the region's Agrupaciones de Defensa Forestal (ADF).
Agents Rurals are continuing their investigation to determine the exact causes of the fire.
