The Moià City Council has called a non-binding popular consultation for January 11 regarding the expansion of the slaughterhouse and the construction of a biogas plant, involving 5,522 registered voters.

The consultation, which will not be binding, will call 5,522 people to the polls, representing 81.1% of the inhabitants registered in the municipality, according to Idescat data. Residents over 16 registered in Moià, including non-Spanish nationals, are eligible to vote, subject to territorial limitations.
These limitations, derived from the Law on non-referendum popular consultations, exclude residents of the Montví de Baix urbanization (those living further north) and some scattered farmhouses. The restriction complies with a ruling by the Constitutional Court which mandates limiting the census to a specific collective, leading promoters to set a 7.2-kilometer radius from the Pla de Castellnou plot.

"It also implies that owners and workers of the industrial estate companies who are not from Moià will not be able to decide on the professional future or their businesses."

Dionís Guiteras · Mayor of Moià
The Mayor, Dionís Guiteras, criticized the census limitation, lamenting the “cuts” made to the law by the TC and the lack of negotiation with the promoters. The question to be voted on is: «Do you agree that the Moià City Council should promote the urban modification of the Pla de Castellnou land for the expansion of the slaughterhouse and the construction of the biogas plant?».
The campaign has already begun. The environmental collective El Fanal has called a first event to request a No vote under the slogan «for a living Moià», which will take place this Saturday at the Sant Josep Auditorium. The campaign will run until Friday, January 9.
