Terres de l'Ebre to receive 74.8 million euros in new budgets

Terres de l'Ebre will receive 74.8 million euros from the Generalitat's budgets, approved in Parliament with the support of ERC and Comuns, marking a 32.4% increase compared to 2023.

The Generalitat's budgets, to be approved in the Parliament in early July with the support of ERC and Comuns, allocate 74.8 million euros for the Terres de l’Ebre region. This figure represents a 32.4% increase compared to the last ratified budget, corresponding to 2023. These are the first accounts of the legislature aiming to "reverse periods of cuts and change the priorities of previous governments," focusing on improving infrastructure and public services, with housing as a primary objective.
In the distribution by counties, Baix Ebre will receive 34,628,585 euros; Ribera d’Ebre, 16,784,195 euros; Montsià, 15,154,952 euros; and Terra Alta, 8,216,331 euros. The funds come from various sources: 61.7 million euros in direct investments from the Generalitat (chapter six), the highest amount in the last 15 years, and over 13 million euros in transfers and subsidies to local entities (chapter seven) for investments in various areas, including the adaptation of school classrooms to climate change and aid for municipal issues.
Healthcare receives a significant investment, with 19.8 million euros for the expansion of the Hospital Verge de la Cinta. Additionally, 4.4 million euros are allocated to improve the Hospital de Móra d’Ebre, 800,000 euros for the new CAP Flix, and 160,000 euros for the clinic in Ascó.
For road infrastructure, 5.5 million euros are designated for the 2+1 section between Ginestar and Móra la Nova, and 3.8 million for the 2+1 section between Amposta and Vinallop. Other investments include 700,000 euros for the road between Amposta and Poblenou del Delta, 474,000 euros for the Gandesa bypass, nearly seven million for road and pavement maintenance, and 329,504 euros for a natural corridor for otters on the C-12 in Flix.
The Government delegate for Terres de l’Ebre, Joan Castor Gonell, emphasized that investments in health, education, and social rights are priorities. Regarding the new reference hospital, over 3.6 million euros are allocated for the functional and director plan. For the new institute in la Ràpita, the budgets include an advance of nearly two million euros from the local council, pending the agreement's signature.
In Social Rights, nearly 2 million euros are earmarked for the transfer of the elderly residence in Batea. Caseres will receive 1.18 million for protected housing and a day center. Other contributions include 618,000 euros for the Senior Center in la Ràpita, 118,000 for the elderly residence in Móra la Nova, and 103,243 euros for the one in la Sénia.
Other notable investments include 2.8 million euros for the breakwater of the port of les Cases d’Alcanar, 2.1 million to adapt the old judicial building in Tortosa, and nearly two million euros in agriculture (irrigation for Xerta-sènia, irrigation for Terra Alta, and a solar plant in Flix).
For facilities, 735,000 euros are allocated for the rehabilitation of the Camarles Town Hall, 450,000 euros for the bridge and accesses to Aldover via the C-12, 394,000 euros for the municipal building in Miravet, and 325,000 euros for the demolition of houses damaged by floods in Godall. Also planned are 1 MEUR for the Catalunya Sud industrial estate and 2 MEUR for actions in the Barranc de Llop in Alcanar.
Further investments include over 562,000 euros for a gymnasium in Horta de Sant Joan, 356,000 euros for a pedestrian walkway in Amposta, 314,000 euros for the structural consolidation of the Molí de Butxaquina in Flix, 229,000 for the renovation of the cinema auditorium in Perelló, and 90,000 euros for the restoration of the mill of l’Assut de Xerta.
In the cultural sphere, the investment of 1.2 million euros in the Miravet Castle and 179,000 euros for the project of the old synagogue of Tortosa stand out.
Additionally, nuclear funds will contribute approximately 50 million euros in additional funding, not directly reflected in the budgets, which will finance, among other things, the university studies for Medicine in Tortosa.
