“"being an OMEC implies bringing concrete projects to the municipality, such as marine protection and regeneration actions, scientifically based support for fishing and aquaculture, renewable energy projects linked to the sea, research, innovation, and training initiatives, as well as promoting sustainable and quality tourism. Furthermore, it opens the door to attracting European and international funding, with a direct economic return for the municipality"

The La Ràpita City Council plenary session held in January approved key projects for public road improvement, the reform of the Casal del Jubilat, and the candidacy of the OMEC Badia dels Alfacs.
Regarding the public road maintenance and improvement project, the valued technical document within the PUOSC has been approved. This action foresees the repair and paving of main streets and avenues such as Sant Josep street, València street, Avinguda Catalunya, and Avinguda Constitució. The works, scheduled to begin throughout 2026, aim to renew the pavement and improve safety and mobility in highly frequented axes that are currently in an advanced state of deterioration.
In relation to the reform and energy improvement of the Casal Municipal del Jubilat (Municipal Senior Center), the project has a budget of 806,294.24 euros and includes a comprehensive reform of the facility. The objective is to dignify the space for the elderly, respond to a repeated demand, and achieve a more modern, accessible, and energy-efficient center.
Finally, the initiative to promote the OMEC Badia dels Alfacs was approved, aiming to position it as a candidate to become the first OMEC (Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measure) in the Mediterranean. This initiative seeks to protect marine biodiversity while guaranteeing economic development linked to the blue economy. The proposal aligns with international commitments to protect 30% of marine areas before 2030 and plans to present the candidacy at COP 2026.
During the plenary session, the 2.5% increase in remuneration for civil servants, labor personnel, temporary staff, and elected officials with exclusive dedication was also unanimously approved, in accordance with the percentage allowed for the 2025 fiscal year. Additionally, taxi service fares for the year 2026 were approved to update prices and ensure adequate service.
