Balaguer's sports clubs snubbed the Paeria's governing team yesterday, who had convened them to discuss the stalled athletics track.

The sports clubs of Balaguer decided not to attend the meeting called by the Paeria's governing team, which aimed to address the clubs' discontent following the halt in the athletics track construction.
The Paeria's invitation included both clubs that signed a manifesto and those that did not. While appreciating the city council's interest, the clubs that issued the statement informed that they would not engage in any meeting until after the next municipal plenary session. It is at that point they plan to present their "sports project".
The mayor, Lorena González, expressed her respect for the decision, while emphasizing that the meeting was an initiative of the "government" and not the PSC, and highlighted the importance of maintaining an "institutional character".
In the manifesto released last Thursday, the clubs highlighted sport as the city's "best showcase", criticized "all" political parties for "looking out for themselves", and expressed feeling "helpless" and on the verge of "throwing in the towel". The stalling of the athletics track was pointed out as "the last straw".
