The party Aliança Catalana, led by Sílvia Orriols, has announced the integration of Xavier Capelles, a lawyer with a varied political background. Capelles, who was a candidate in Vic with Ara Pacte Local, has formed the party Futur Blau, which is now joining Aliança Catalana. The agreement was formalized with a collaboration signing between Orriols and the promoters of Futur Blau, Xavier Capelles and Joan Font.
Capelles's trajectory has been marked by his involvement in organizations such as Fuerza Nueva, associated with Blas Piñar, and the Comunión Tradicionalista Carlista, an extreme-right party for which he was a candidate in the 1994 European elections. He later became a member of CDC and UDC.
During the Catalan independence process, Capelles participated in the establishment of the Manresa branch of Societat Civil Catalana, a unionist entity, where he advocated for the right to decide. In an interview, he stated that "independence was not the solution to the problem" and that "the end never justifies the means," a view contrasting with Aliança Catalana's support for a unilateral declaration of independence.
Following the 2017 referendum, Capelles ran on various independent lists in Vic, including Vic Sentit Comú and a list linked to the PDECat. According to sources from the latter party, Capelles and Font left because they did not support the party's coalition government with Junts, describing them as "viscerally anti-Junts."
“"Not all candidates will be explicitly Catalan nationalists."
