The municipality of Soriguera has successfully hosted the second edition of the 'Civil War in Pallars' historical reenactment, drawing 390 visitors to Tossal de Sant Joan, a key site of the region's memorial heritage.

The event, organized by the local council, saw a 30% increase in attendance compared to the previous year, establishing the initiative as a significant cultural and educational offering in Pallars Sobirà. The chosen setting was the Tossal de Sant Joan, a strategic defensive complex from 1938, which features nine bunkers, six parapets, two machine-gun nests, and an ammunition depot, all connected by a network of trenches recovered through archaeological intervention.
The main objective of the event was to bring the daily lives of combatants to the public with the highest possible historical accuracy. Thirty reenactors from five specialized groups, including the Catalan Association of Collectors of Historical Uniforms (ACCUH) and the Aragonese group Primera Línea, participated in the reenactment.

"Historical reenactment allows us to approach historical events in a much more attractive and tangible way. The use of original materials helps empathize with the experiences of the young people who fought on this front."

Reenactors such as Juan Martínez (ACCUH) highlighted the location's suitability for such events in Catalonia, while Javier Morón (Primera Línea) emphasized the authenticity of the surroundings. The historical context dates back to the spring of 1938, following the Francoist offensive that established an active front until December of that year, with control over hydroelectric power plants and roads being a strategic objective.
Since 2020, the Soriguera Town Council has been working on documenting and consolidating this military heritage, including excavating trenches and repairing defensive structures. The mayor, Josep Ramon Fondevilla, positively assessed the public's response and announced that the event's frequency will be considered. The day concluded with a popular communal meal.
