The event, organized by the Soriguera Town Council, aims to highlight the historical vestiges of the Civil War preserved at this significant site. The reenactment will feature four specialized groups representing both Francoist and Republican units.
According to historian and initiative coordinator Oriol Riart, the Tossal de Sant Joan de Vilamur is a site of particular historical importance, boasting six machine gun nests, restored trenches, parapets, and sniper positions. This reenactment will allow attendees to connect with history directly from its original settings, fostering a deeper understanding of the experiences of young combatants.
The event seeks to reconstruct historical events with maximum fidelity and rigor, using original period materials such as uniforms, deactivated weapons, equipment, and documentation. This staging aims to provide spectators with a more "tangible and attractive approach to the Civil War" and history in general.
Various dioramas and theatrical performances will depict scenes from the lives of combatants at the front, including command posts, observation and transmission points, a machine gun section, and a supply convoy. The characteristics and equipment of the Pyrenean Battalion will also be explained.
Approximately thirty reenactors from five specialized associations will participate: the Catalan Association of Collectors of Historical Uniforms (ACCUH), the Association for Historical Recovery of Montserratí (ARHM), the Group for Ancient Mountain Studies (GEMA), Primera Línea, and the XV Mixed Brigade.
Oriol Riart has encouraged visitors to interact with the reenactors to deepen their historical knowledge of the conflict in Pallars, thereby helping to preserve the historical memory of the Pyrenees.
Thanks to archaeological interventions initiated in 2019, the Francoist defensive complex at Tossal de Sant Joan, comprising nine bunkers, six parapets, two sniper posts, and an ammunition depot linked by trenches, can now be explored in a didactic and immersive manner.
